Mechanical marvels have fascinated mankind for centuries. The desire to give life to inanimate objects, to make them almost indistinguishable from the living, was a highly developed theme of the Arts and Crafts movement. Crystal Automata, Preciosa´s exhibition of mechanical crystal installations, embodies the same craftsmanship of glass masters and clock makers as from that time. Four crystal automata installations represent the eternal themes of the Four elements: Water, Earth, Air, and Fire. These core substances define the quality and beauty of Bohemian crystal, which has been shaped by the hands and breath of generations of craftsmen, the Bohemian Alchemists.
